1. Agreement
By creating an account or using Build-A-Bookie (the website at build-a-bookie.com, the commissioner desk, and the mobile app), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the product.
2. What we are (and are not)
Build-A-Bookie is a social product for friend groups and leagues. Virtual currency only. No real-money wagering. Balances, odds, and payouts inside a Book are virtual. They have no cash value, cannot be withdrawn, and are not redeemable for money, crypto, or prizes of monetary value through us.
We do not operate a real-money sportsbook, casino, or fantasy contest with entry fees. See Why there's no real money.
3. Accounts
You must provide accurate account information and keep credentials secure. You are responsible for activity under your account. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms or harm other users.
You must be old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction and meet any minimum age we publish for the product (generally 18+ where required).
4. Books, events, and bets
Book creators and managers may invite members, set rosters, schedule events, and post bets. Members may place virtual stakes according to Book rules. Settlement uses product logic (including Cloud Functions) based on entered stats and bet definitions.
Operators using the website desk for large leagues are still bound by these Terms and the virtual-currency rules. Creating a Book does not create a real-money escrow or fiduciary duty over cash.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the product to facilitate real-money gambling we do not support
- Harass, abuse, or impersonate others
- Scrape, reverse engineer, or attack our systems
- Upload unlawful content or malware
- Misrepresent virtual balances as cash or investment returns
6. Intellectual property
Build-A-Bookie, branding, software, and site content are owned by us or our licensors. You retain rights to content you submit (names, messages you choose to share) and grant us a license to host and display it as needed to run the product.
7. Privacy
How we handle data is described in our Privacy Policy. Session cookies on the website authenticate the desk; the app uses Firebase Auth.
8. Disclaimers
The product is provided "as is." We do not warrant uninterrupted service or that settlement outcomes will match every informal side agreement among friends. We are not liable for offline arrangements involving real money.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Build-A-Bookie and its operators are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill arising from use of the product. Our aggregate liability for claims relating to the product will not exceed one hundred U.S. dollars (USD $100) or the amount you paid us (if any) in the prior twelve months, which for typical use is zero.
10. Termination
You may stop using the product at any time. We may suspend or end access for Terms violations, risk to the community, or product shutdown. Provisions that should survive (IP, disclaimers, liability limits) survive termination.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, excluding conflict-of-law rules, unless mandatory local consumer law says otherwise. Venue for disputes lies in courts located in North Carolina where permitted.
12. Changes
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date on this page. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
